Batty.
Well, IM back at it. I was able to start a new painting for our Blood Puddin' Show here at Hope, May 12th. opening. This is separate from the Blood Pudding' "Dark Dames" Show At Brandt, and Cathy's Strange Factory in New Mexico. There will be Blood Puddin' Sketch books, and a signing at both shows. But on to the new gal . Im calling her Batty. IM hoping to make a show poster out of her. But as you can probably see from these poor photos, I've not yet been able to get a scan of her. She's a bit to big for my scanner at Hope, measuring 16x20". So IM hoping to be able to get it out to a pro soon. Like other pieces in resent months. I've opted to not prep my own board, and gone with a pre-finished surface. In this case a gesso board. I will admit to being a little put off by the smooth surface, and its lack of absorption. But once I got used to it, and how slowly I needed to build up the paint on the surface. I kind of liked the end result. Another thing I did a bit differently, was sprayed a workable fixative on the piece, after my initial Airbrush/color blocking was done. I did this before I started to got at the painting with a paint brush. As (some of you who airbrush/paint brush may know already), when going over an airbrush surface with a paint brush using an Airbrush/Liquid acrylic. the brush tends to pull up your first coat of airbrush colors. The workable fixative did it's job, and kept the first coat in place. I feel it also gave the surface a nice tooth to work on. I know the day is going to come that I need to push my airbrush aside, and just start painting a bit more traditionally. Oils, or acrylics. Its just so hard to make that leap, and break my routines. Old, dogs and all that...
