Tom Strom, Jeff Gogue Interview 1
8/27/10 Here's a bit of an interview the Baroness at Hope Gallery (Nichole) put together in preperation for our upcoming show Shedding Skin, The Art of Tom Strom, and Jeff Gogue. September 11, 2010 In preparation for his upcoming show with at Hope Gallery entitled “Shedding Skin”, painter and tattoo artist Tom Strom talks about his inspiration behind his paintings and even gives us some previews. Why is the show entitled "Shedding Skin"? The title of the show "Shedding Skin" has some duality for me, maybe not so much for Jeff. It comes from the title of one of my favorite Pantera songs. Being a long time fan of metal, I like to incorporate its themes and ideals into a lot of what I do. I also thought it gave a very appropriate name to our show being that we are both tattooers trying to be artists past our job title, essentially shedding our "tattoo" skin.
What is your inspiration or theme behind these works? My inspiration as of lately seems to be focusing more and more on science fiction and a mixture of a lot of the nature around my home on Minnesota. I've always had an affinity for nature paintings and landscapes so I've been working on really creating atmospheres that we can all relate to. In that, I've been trying to create a narrative of some sort using creatures that are mutated or evolved in one way or another. Basically playing with the idea that as humans progress, we are only pushing nature to to find a way around us and prevail over the earth again. I've only just started working on this theme so these paintings are only the start of it.
Can you give us a background story for one of the pieces in the show? I feel like I am only just starting to find my stride with a lot of my themes so it also led to a slower start in my painting. I've been painting most of these pieces almost every night over the summer. It's been a lot of long nights. I'd say it's been a summer long painting binge that realistically, I don't think will ever stop at this point. Whatever I'm doing right now, seems like the beginning.
How do you know Jeff Gogue? At the end of all this, I have to be honest and say that Jeff is a bigger part of my painting inspiration. I've only gotten to know Jeff over the years through short encounters at conventions and a few phone conversations. What I do know about Jeff though is that he is an incredible painter with what seems to be an endless supply of motivation. He's influencing tattooers around the world to paint and move past tattooing which is not an easy task. Seeing that made me want to become more of a painter and really get focused. I owe Jeff some thanks and probably a drink!
Hope Gallery Presents “Shedding Skin” by Tom Strom and Jeff Gogue Opening Reception: Saturday, September 11, 7-10pm
New Mini Sketch Book
8/22/10 Well as some of you may know that I'll be attending Dragon Con in Sept. 3rd.-5th. dragoncon.org/ in Atlanta GA. I'll be leaving to head down to NC to Visit Friends Lise Barnett, and Rodney Raines www.acecustomtattoo.com/twentytwo/twentytwo.html. I'll also be doing a brief spot at acecustomtattoo.com/ We'll have a ton of stuff with us at Dragon Con. Prints, Books, Stickers, and a new "Ash Can" sketch book.
Its 26 pages of brand spanking cool, new "Capo Gal" Sketches. 4 1/4"x5 1/2" soft cover.
These books will be limited to 250 copies. So once there gone, there gone. Hope ta see ya there! F#*K'N Flakes, and Seconds
8/15/10 As many may know I dig drawing. Any time I have the opportunity to draw I do so, and with gusto. Which is a good thing. Because my job, and my clients can be quite demanding. And IM quite demanding of myself , Most of the time. So a lot of the time I'll end up with many drawings for a single client, Even when that client pulls a no show (more on that in a bit). So heres one of the "Seconds" that I did for Saturdays client. I don't have the one that I actually tattooed, as I gave the sketch, and line drawing to the young Lady.
So as you can guess, she asked for a Mermaid. I did 2 different positions. One swimming up the arm, in a 3/4 nearly profile action. And this one, on the rock, trying to avoid one of mother natures lil' monsters. She chose the earlier version. Which I think was much more fitting, and just as cool looking. Pictures of the tattoo will appear in the "tattoo" gallery, in the days to come. Next what I have are the sketches for my Sunday appointment. Which I might add flaked! Not very happy about this fact. Hell IM booking months in advance, and we take the time to call all of our clients a few days in advance, as a reminder. And when you leave a message, and theirs no response. Its quite annoying. Not too mention that it robs another client of an earlier, or even a possible appointment. regardless, heres the sketch and line drawing form todays "No Show".
Was looking forward to this here piece. Tuff luck for the guy. Still figuring out how to remedy this "Flaking" client Bullshit, without making the good folks suffer. So Tattooed interview
8/10/10 Just found out IM one of the many artists Featured on So Tattooed E-zine. www.sotattooed.com/ezine/2010/08/09/joe-capobianco/ This interview was done back in May, while I was down in FL.
Pretty cool interview. The Bit about Apprenticing was edited a bit weird, but ya get the gist. All in all a fun interview. Also features the Music of the band Rumble King www.myspace.com/rumbleking My Good Friend, Obie Hughes plays sax for. The music alone is worth a gander.
Hope's Anniversary Show
8/5/10 Hope Gallery will be hosting our 1 Year in our New Digs art show, and BBQ. So come on by for some killer art, fine folks, and great food. Day of the Dead, sticker
8/4/10 Well I've been CA, and Las Vegas for the past week. As some of ya may know I came out here to visit friends, and attend the Black Anchor Collective art show, and opening. By the way it was great. Some fantastic art, and good folks. Well as when I normally travel, I was trying to get a ton of stuff done. See friends, tattoo, check out the art show, whatever. Well one of the other projects I've been working on, along with Carlos East. Is a sticker, and New t-shirt line. I dropped off a couple of these, and got back the samples, and IM pretty happy so far.
Heres the latest. And there's more to come. So keep an eye out for more on this, and other projects.
Girls, Girls, Girls, Art show!
7/27/10 This weekend Saturday July 31st, Nikko Hurtado will be hosting the grand opening of his Studio Black Anchor Collective. www.myspace.com/black_anchor_collective He's planned a killer gallery show to lead off with that opens that evening. Your truly is just one of ten amazing artists that will have there work featured at the new gallery space. The show is titled "Girls, Girls Girls".
I will be in attendance the evening of the show (Wouldn't miss this for all the world), and kicking off my trip out west with a brief guest spot at Las Vegas's Hart & Huntington www.hartandhuntingtontattoo.com/ visiting friend Jime Litwalk www.jimelitwalk.com/ Than a Jaunt out to Ontario CA to to visit Obie Hughes Of Speak Easy tattoo www.obiehughes.com/ Really looking forward to visiting friends, and checking out this show. So I hope ta see ya out there. A Little CAPO GAL Fun.
7/22/10 As of the past few weeks, Carlos East, and I have been working on a new project. Were taking some of my CAPO GALS, and giving them a new look. Basically IM doing some drawing (old and new), and using Calos's Keen sense of color, and computer skills, to create a new line of stickers, and other cool swag. The first was a little Day of the Dead action (that unfortunately I don't have at the moment), and the second is the slammin Cave Gal.
And a bit of Zombie gal action.
Carlos, did a killer job on these, and there are gonna be a couple more coming, so keep an eye peeled. Were looking for a release of the stickers for Dragon con this September www.dragoncon.org/ where we'll have a booth. Now off to work...
Hunger Pangs
7/18/10 Well IM almost completed my 3 pieces for Nikko Hurtados, Black Anchor Collective, "Girls, Girls, Girls" art show, this July 31st. www.myspace.com/black_anchor_collective This one is Titled "Hunger Pangs", and like most of my work is Acrylic, with a healthy mix of airbrush, and traditional paint brush. She measures about 16x20", and is on gessoed, Illustration board.
IM really looking forward to this show. And My trip out west. I'll be in attendance for the show at Nikko's, and will be guesting at Obie Hughes SpeakEasy Tattoo in Ontario CA. www.obiehughes.com/ I'll also be visiting friend jimelitwalk.com/ when I fly into Vegas, than CA. Keep an eye peeled for more. Now I gotta get a move on, still got 1 more piece to complete for this show. Skate for Cancer show
7/15/10 Well this past June, The Toronto NIX tattoo convention tattoos.com/nix/ was host to the "HighWay to Hell" art show, where they showcased an auction for Skate for Cancer www.skate4cancer.com/ The show was curated by Lauren Wilson, Sarah Dresser, and Trevor O'Niell. Here was my little contribution. As some of you may know IM a pretty big Maiden fan. And back in the day before I started tattooing, I painted my fair share of Maiden Denim jackets. So it only seemed fitting that I do an Eddie deck for the show.
It was a ton of fun, and I have to thank Lauren for including me in the show. You can view all of the decks, as well as photos, and more info on the Skate for Cancer charity, here tattoos.com/nix/2010/highway/index.html
Service droid tattoo
7/10/10 I gotta say its a lot of fun working on long term, multi sit projects. But I so dig just being able to sit, and knock out a piece that done, and stand alone. It seems rare for me, and fun when they come along. This latest piece was on a local tattooer, who attended out Star Wars show, and really dug my "Service Droid" painting.
He decided he wanted her on the top of his foot. I did a couple of changes, to make it a bit more his, by replacing the R2-Droid toy, with a Light Saber. So now I just call her "Ooollllaaaa"
Sorry for the crappy shot, but ya get the idea. This feller sat for 4 hours. A braver man than I. All in all a lot of fun. Ripped off, and Pissed!
7/8/10 Man, I must say that one of my biggest beefs in this industry, is the pure lack of giving a shit about others art! The other day I was informed about a tattoo shop in NJ that took one of my tattoos and used it for a printed add. It kills me because I post my work online for a handful of reasons. Firstly to advertise myself, and my work. Second, to show off what I've done, and what IM capable of. And lastly to inspire myself & hopefully inspire others. Now the down side. There's a ton of artists (most Shitty), that don't seem to have a problem ripping off my art (and others), and calling it there own. I mean shit, chances are if your ripping shit off, you suck, and others will most likely be able to tell the difference. And for the poor unfortunates who honestly believe your as good as the pictures you've ripped off. Too bad for them. Which brings me to this. IM lucky enough to find myself a fairly respected, and even sometimes liked artist. With that, a lot of folks keep an eye out for me, and my art. And thats how this came to my attention.
I can't stress enough my dislike for this kind of BS. Granted I put my shit out there on the web for all you folks out there. But I like to think that, most have the decency to not bite my shit. Guess IM wrong. I can only hope these folks get what they deserve.
Upcoming art show, at Black Anchor Collective.
7/1/10 If ya didn't know, I was asked to be part of the First, and opening show at Nikko Hurtado's Black Anchor Collective www.myspace.com/black_anchor_collective. The show opens Saturday July 31st. And hosts a fantastic group of artists.
Needless to say, IM honored, and a bit intimidated by the line up. I've been wracking my brain on what I wanna do, and trying to decide if I should stray from my normal routes. IM still not 100% certain what IM gonna do here, but I've already finished my first piece, and the second two, are still in the early sketch faze. Here is both the sketch, and a horrible scan of the final painting.
She measures 4 1/2x6 1/2 inches,She's entitled "Lickity Split", and is acrylic on gessoed wood. Again the scan is terrible here. Looks like I'll need to photograph this piece, for a fair reproduction. Keep an eye peeled for more info on this. Have a happy 4th of July

6/1/10
A "Disturbance in the Force" is coming!
5/28/10 We'd like to thank Gentle Giant for all the cool Swag that we'll be giving away, and raffling the evening of the "Disturbance in the Force" Star Wars show, Friday June 4th. As for my little piece of the show, well IM still working my way thru (nothing like waiting till the last minute right). But IM hoping to be finishing her up in the days to come, and have her framed just in time for the show.
So keep an eye peeled for more She's all Gone
5/26/10 Well IM back from Hell City, and I must say that is was hands down one of the best shows that I've done in probably the past 2 years. A real fantastic time, spent tattooing, seeing some good friends, and meeting some fine folks. it was also set off with the release of my KidRobot toy "The Bride". IM almost sad to say that she's all sold out.
Yup thats right. We sold her out online, as well as at the show. I can't thank all the folks out there who came out, and bought this lil lady. Thanks again so much. More coming up soon, also check out the new pict in my tattoo portfolio. I posted some new tattoo's with more coming. 1st Day Of Hell City
5/22/10 Well, the 1st day of Hell City is behind us, and I must say it was a success! Did a wee bit of tattooing, than it was time for the toy release. Fantastic, sold a bunch. Hell we even had our very own life size Bride on hand showing off the goods. Nichole did a Hell of a job putting this together.
I really wanna thanks Carlos as well. Totally helped out, and came thru on more than one occasion yesterday.
Still a couple left out here in Hell so sing by. Also don't forget if ya can't make it to Killumbus, at last count there was 2 left at hopegallerytattoo.bigcartel.com/product/the-bride-original-vinyl-toy-by-joe-capobianco On another note. I picked up my new Stigma's. IM setting these 2 up as liners (a Hyper, and Bizarre). I'll be tattooing with em all weekend. So keep an eye peeled for picts, and words.
The Bride, Is here!
5/18/10 Yup, thats right. My KidRobot "Bride" toy arrived this afternoon, much to my excitement!
Many boxes, with tons of new toys. Too exciting to see em finally at the shop!
We've taken down 100 regular "Brides, and only a handful of the limited edition Glow in the darks.
You see here a very happy man. I'd really like to thank KifRobot for this chance. But I really owe Nichole East one hell of a HUGE thank you, for making bringing this to KidRobot in the first place. We'll be starting to sell 50 of these lil ladies Thursday morning 11 am sharp at hopegallerytattoo.bigcartel.com/ And keep an eye out for the big release at this Years hellcitytattoofestival.com/ 6pm. Friday the 21st Gallery shows, and Conventions.
5/16/10 Well as many of you know IM back from Orlando, and have had a couple of days to just kinda hang out, and work my ass off. Last night, Nichole (Hopes Baroness), and her hubby Carlos East, headed into Manhattan to check out both the Scott Musgrove show at jonathanlevinegallery.com/ and than hit the "Flesh To Canvas" show at www.lastritesgallery.com/ in which your truly, and 20 other artists got to hang on the walls. Whole lotta fun, and some keen art at both shows. Here's mine
Now IM Getting ready to head out to the Hell City show, in Killumbus OH. Looking forward to the release of the Bride toy here, and all the fun tattoo's I've got lined up. So please stop on by, should be a bunch of fun!
Like it says I'll be sharing a booth, with Tim, Phil (of Hope), and Mr. Jime' Litwalk. Should be a blast. And like the card says above, we'll have plenty of swag for sale. See ya there.
Back from Orlando, and Tried, and True
5/13/10 Well it was a long drawn out journey, but, we have returned from our trip down south. It was fun seeing friends at the Tried & True show in Orlando, and managed to score a few cool tattoo's, but I must admit that our high point was seeing Rodney Raines, and Lise Barnett's Twenty Two Gallery, wine bar. But more on that in a moment. I posted a couple of shots of tattoo's done at T&T. Fun stuff, and good folks. Did a way cool nurse on a feller who didn't come up to ask cause he thought I'd be booked all weekend. Luckily for him, that was not the case. And we got to do this lil gal on his forearm.
A real fun tattoo, and cool guy. It seems that with the few folks that came up and asked, this was one of the 3 cool tattoos I got to do all weekend. The other big deal for me at the show was people asking "what the Hell are you using there Joe". Seems people were pretty intrigued by my new (sort of new) Stigma tattoo machines. Now granted IM still only using em as shaders, IM really diggin em so far. I will admit to being a bit nervous, breaking these bad boys out on the convention floor, when so many great machine builders, and fantastic old school tattooers were present. Hell our booth was right next to Richrad Stell, and Mike Wilsons. Two people I admire a lot. But all in all, no problems, and few "What are you doing?" comments.
But back to Twenty Two. By far the highlight of our trip. Lise, and Rodney, have put together one Hell of a place. It really is on of the more impressive galleries I've ever been to. and certainly, one of the nicest wine bars.
And as it turns out there hosting a killer Comic Book show, to coincide with Charolette's Comic con (the end of this Month). Hell how syked was I to see an original Adam Hughes piece on the wall.
Hell They even had the original She Hulk painting that Marvel used back in like the 90's. Hell I remember having this piece on my wall back than. Jusko was a God to me when I first picked up my airbrush, and started painting the half naked broads. So I don't need to express my joy upon seeing the original. Fantastic!
So If ya find yerself in NC, check em out, www.acecustomtattoo.com/twentytwo/twentytwo.html
Couple of new Projects.
5/3/10 Well, IM slowly getting better. If you didn't hear I threw my back out pretty freakin bad, bout 2 weeks ago. And I've been freaking out, because its been busier than Hell at the shop, and I've a couple of big trips/conventions soon (tomorrow soon, as a matter of fact). So its been hectic as Hell, to say the least. But I've still managed to put together a couple of art projects, outside of tattooing. You may remember the Bride painting for our limited edition signing plate. This lil lady will accompany the Bride toys that we sell (which means you can only get one by ordering from me here at www.hopegallerytattoo.bigcartel.com or by hitting the Catalog button up top).
Keep in mind the date is coming up, so keep an eye peeled for more info in the coming week. I also managed to finish up this lil piece. She's for a Hand Book project. The second to be exact, check out www.tatouage.fr/eboutik/livres.html for the first, and other cool books.
This is just a peek of the whole painting. Check out the "original art" section for a whole shot. Ton of fun, hurt back and all. Now IM getting ready for work, packing, and tomorrow the long ass drive down to Orlando FL. for the Tried, and True show www.triedandtruetattooexpo.com/ With stops on the way to visit Rodney, and Lise's new place Twenty Two, in Charlotte NC, www.acecustomtattoo.com/twentytwo/twentytwo.html and some family stuff in Atlanta GA. And than my final stop in FL. So see ya, when I see ya.
KidRobots "The Bride"
4/30/10 Yup, my waiting is almost at an end, and IM insanely excited. If ya didn't know KidRobot asked yours truly to design a toy/figurine for them. Make a long story short, we took Nichole East's tattoo (which is a CAPO gal Bride of Frankenstien), and turned her into that Toy. Ya see if it weren't for Nichole (The Toy Baroness, Now Hope's Baroness), I would never have gotten this dream deal with KidRobot! And now the dream is almost in my little mitts!
Here Comes KidRobots,
4/22/10 Hey all, well the release date is almost upon us. KidRobot will be releasing "The Bride" May 20th, and we will be hosting our very own release at this Years Hell City tattoo festival Friday evening May 21st. 2010.
Along with the toy, We'll be giving away a limited edition signed and numbered Print, that will accompany any of the toys purchased thru my web store, or at the Hell City Event. These are very limited prints, (only 100). We will also have a limited number of t-shirts to be sold the evening of our release in Ohio. So get there early. We've plenty planed, should be a blast!!!
Art prints available again
4/21/10 Hey All, well I've made the art prints available again thru our web store. All of your favorites are available again. And keep an eye out in the coming weeks for new ones. Hit the "Catalog" button up top, or try www.hopegallerytattoo.bigcartell.com for purchases.
Thanks for buying all the originals
4/19/10 Hey All, just want to thank everyone who took advantage of the opening sale today. I also wanna give Nichole a thanks. She really put together a hell of a sale day. She sold all but 2 of the originals, and a bunch of prints, books, and DVD's. Thanks again everyone.
Papas got a Brand new (Tattoo) Bag
4/17/10 Well as some of ya may know when I was out in the UK, & Germany last year (August 09). I became kinda infatuated with the Swash, and rotary machines. It seemed that a ton of really talented artists were using em. Now thats not to say that this is a new thing. I mean Hell when I was in Japan like 10 years ago. Tattooist Miyazo tattooed me using a rotary, that the feller he apprenticed under built for him. And the Swash drive has been a machine that a bunch of super talented tattooists have been using for a while now. So this is hardly my first impression of the Rotary style machines. But I will admit that there was something bout this trip, that really had me wanting to try these machines out. Needless to say that I fought the urge back in August, and did not pick one up, or even try one out than. But Than this past November while out in the UK, at Lal Hardys, New Wave tattoo. Atom (the Punk) was using (almost exclusively) the Stigma Hypers and Bizarre's. I will admit to being a little interested at the time, and by my 3rd day working, Atom, and Lal offered to let me use there's. I did two tattoos that weekend, one being the top of Atoms hand with the Hypers, and Bizarre's. I must say to being pretty impressed.
Make a long story, just as long. I came home with the intentions of purchasing myself a couple of Stigma machines. But... I chickened out, and decided that Coil machines were where its at, and I didn't need these new Fangled contraptions. I do recall speaking to Lal shortly after, and him asking whether or not I'd purchased my Stigma's. And my reply was "no, I really don't think I wanna make the investment, whats the point?. I like my coils". To which he replied, "Stop being such a Pussy, and buy the Fukin things already".
Well fast forward to Last month. IM in Germany working the Tattoo Ink Explosion, and having a grand ole time. After the show we stop at Magic Moon tattoo. I decide than and there that IM gonna bite the bullet, and buy me a swash drive tattoo machine (Jorn, of Magic Moon carries that there). I went back to Andy's and did a couple of tattoo's with my swash, and His Hyper Bizarres. I must admit to being very happy, and before I came home I made my order from Stigma, for 2 Hypers.
Its been 2 weeks, and IM real happy so far. I will admit to being a little more partial to my Hypers, -vs- my Swash, but there both great machines. and I look forward to doing a ton more work with em.
Now I must admit to still not doing a lot of lining with either. But IM hoping to rectify that this week. We'll see. As hard as it was for me to pick these up to shade and color with. It'll be harder to put down my Brickhouses, and Josh Ford liners.
But Hell who knows what the future hold for this old Freak-in dog.
![]() * Thanks Lal, Atom, just what I need, more freakin machines!
4/16/10
Ok folks, as of this Monday, we'll be posting the rest of the original sketches from 'Knock Yersel Out", on our www.hopegallerytattoo.bigcartel.com site (or just hit the "Catalog" button up top here on this site. As before all sketches range from $40-60. So get there soon. Like I said Monday mornings the day. Also don't forget my original paintings. We'll be posting those up as well.
Tattooing, friends, and traveling, West, and East again...
4/13/10 Well IM back from my travels out west yet again. I really have to say that i've got some incredible friends. Hell I really wish they all lived a bit closer, cause I gotta admit that all this traveling is killing me.
I started with a flight to Vegas to pick up my friend Andy Schmidt of Germany. You may remember him from past posts, and as the feller who threw the Tattoo Ink Explosion in Germany this past March. Than a jaunt threw the Desert to visit Mario of Art Junkies (unfortunately we missed him), than a quick trip over to Nikko's new shop Black anchor. Wow, that kid has really put together one Hell of a place. I wish him all the luck in the world. IM really looking forward to all the great work, and shows that'll be coming outta there. Also got ta chat with Carlos Rojas who was tattooing there that afternoon. Another talented feller, & one heck of a nice guy. Than we traveled out to Obies SpeakEasy tattoo. Always a good time with these guys. Johnny, and his lovely Gal Claudia put Andy, and I up for a few days, and put together one Hell of a BBQ. Damn that gal can cook> Some of the best ribs I've had in quite some time. We also got to get down to LA a couple of nights, and stopped in at Kim Saighs, and Shawn Barbers joint. Super cool, they've got them selves a killer studio space with a ton of space, and some amazing art hanging round the place. As a matter of fact we got a bit of a sneak peek at some of the art that will be featured at his show opening at the Jashua Liner gallery in NYC this april 24th www.jashualinergallery.com
I'll be there for certain. Than Andy and I were back on the road heading back to Vegas. I did a bit of a spot at the Hard Rocks Hart & Huntington, and got to do some way cool tattoos. We got to hang with Jime's a few other folks. And we got to treat Andy to a Brazilian BBQ joint called Texas De Brazil Fantastic!
All in all a fantastic trip, and even though IM happy to be home. The trip was entirely too short. Like I said as small as the world can be, its just too freaking big sometimes.
Leaving Germany
3/27/10 Well, Its been fun, but all things great, must come to an end they seem. Yup, Jime and I will be headed home tomorrow morning. But our last night here was a lot of fun. We spent most of the day tattooing. And Both Jime, and I got to run some rotary machines. For me this was my second run, and the most convincing. Partly, because I got caught up in the moment, and when we visited Magic Moon Tattoo (A supplier, and cool ass shop here in Germany), & bought my self a swash drive. I also got to use Andy's Stigma "Bizarre", during the same tattoo. Here are the results. A simple little tattoo, but still a lot of fun. I must say I was o taken, that I ordered a pair of stigmas this evening. Here's the result...
Our last day was also filled with a bit of pain, & I don't mean sadness over our leaving in the morning. Tommy Lee stopped by, and I caught a small souvenir tattoo.
It was a fun experience, and Tommy's a great tattooist and feller. Looking forward to seeing him again real soon. As a matter of fact, It turns out he's a huge geek/star wars Nerd, & has agreed to send us a piece for the "Disturbance in the Force" show, this June. Jime also laid out a great tattoo on Nicole (Andy's Gal).
All in all, a great trip, and fun times, with fantastic friends. Thanks Andy, and Nicole, for putting Jime, and I up all week. Well home in the morning, than work, The Amber Carr show "Take it on the Arches" this weekend (the 3rd), and than Vegas, next week. Man, I really gotta settle the F*%K down! See ya Tattoo Ink Explosion, and beyond!
3/24/10 Well the "Tattoo Ink Explosion" here in Germany, has come to a close, and I must say we all had a blast. Andy Schmidt, put on one Hell of a show, and the turn out was really quite something! Got to do some real fun tattoo's and meet all sorts of cool folks.
There was one Hell of an after party Saturday evening, where the theme was a luau. And just about everyone got laid. Than there was a ton of sight seeing with friends. Tom, and Jackee Strom was in attendance, with there friend Zack. It was fantastic!
There last night in Europe was spent in Holland with us. We all hooked up with Marco, and Kim, Hengst. Great folks, and a killer shop.
Still a ton to do, But today I start earning my keep. I've my first tattoo to do at Andy's Body Electric. So keep an eye peeled for picts.
Finished!
3/12/10 Well, She's all done. Actually, she's been done for about a week. But the morning after I finished her. Phil took her to a feller to scan it for reproduction (seems she's too big for our scanner, and we all know how I photograph). I was pretty excited to send it out, but than got all anxious. Seems I really couldn't remember if liked the way she turned out or not. Turns out I do, and the scans, and reproduction turned out great too, so keep an eye peeled for prints.
Like I said before, she's my Back up for Last Rites "Flesh to Canvas" show in May. That is if the piece IM working on now (Head Cheese), doesn't turn out to my liking.
Now she's off to the printer. Well tomorrows another stress full day at Hope (don't ask), but IM hoping ta get a bit of painting in, before I head off to Germany on the 17th. Also don't forget to check out the Catalog section for sale prices on my Giclee's, and lets not forget them there Keen Machines! Tattoo Machines Are up!

Back in the Saddle. Now I hope I don't get Bucked!
3/2/10 Well, I've been trying to get back into the swing again, with painting tattooing, and taken care of business at the shop. Just in time too. We got big things just over the horizon for Hope Gallery. Keep an eye out in the coming days for more info on this. But in the meantime. Heres where IM at with the painting on my easel at the moment.
Started with the airbrush, and have moved in with a paintbrush. IM trying my hand at a more painterly look (or as painterly as IM liable to get). Its all acrylic on Gessoed, Water color paper.
The Skull in the background is mainly complete, but I've still got a bit of work to accomplish on the bride in the foreground. Looking forward to finishing this Baddie before too long. Already got plans for my next piece. You may have noticed that she's the sketch from my sketch book "Knock Yerself Out". This will be my back up painting for the Last Rites Gallery show "Flesh to Canvas", if my next piece doesn't work out. Fingers crossed... GA Good Day...
2/26/10 Today was a good day. Started off kinda crappy. Bad weather, lack of sleep, and a couple of other things I won't bore ya's with. But once I arrived at work (way Early), the day started to turn for the better for me. Got to do a bit of painting, and finally made some head way on a new piece thats been sitting on my easel for the past several weeks. Than I started tattooing. Got like 98% thru, than just kinda lost steam. But it was still a good sitting (besides I think my client was about at the end of his rope as well. Than the Mail man brought gifts! I received my Orphan Irons machines today. Runs sweet, and am looking forward to doing more with er.
Than Low, and behold the Fed Ex man, came back with my brand new Macbook. Very excited with this, big doing in the future. So keep an eye peeled. Than to finish off my good day, a few of us headed out to Fosters restaurant for one of there killer Game dinners.
A fantastic meal with great friends. All in all, a great way to finish a good day. IM sitting hear now typing, looking out the window at the snow falling, hoping that today is a good as yesterday. Fingers crossed.
Later... Last 11"x14", sketches from "KYO"
2/21/10 OK, i've been home for a couple of days, and only had ta tattoo my first day in. Meaning I've had two days to screw around, and do some drawing. Granted I didn't do nearly as much drawing as I'd have liked, but what I did do, I'd figured I'd drop here. This lil lady was done as a commission sketch for another tattooist. Hope he likes er'. Cause I've still not heard back. Could also be that its was a gift, and in usual fashion, I've gotten back to him late. We'll see...

Friends Like these...
2/19/10 Well IM back from TX, and I gotta say I had one Hell of a time.
Obie, invited Tony Ciavarro, Litos, Jime' Litwalk, and myself out for a couple of days, of Tattooing, hanging around, & good ole' fashion Shit talkin. And trust me there, was some shit talking going on! s605.photobucket.com/albums/tt140/whatsnottalike/Spotlight%20at%20SpeakEasy/
Our first evening Obie threw a little meet, and greet cocktail party, much wine was consumed, and new friends were well met. Even though the heat had gone out at SpeakEasy TX, there wasn't a shortage of hot air to keep everyone cheery, and and in good spirits.
IM so happy for Obie, and for what he's managed to put together, in both TX, and his main digg's in Ontario CA. I'll let you all in on a bit of a secret. My decision to put the new Hope in its current local, is in no small part due to what Obie has created with SpeakEasy. A killer feel, attitude, and idea, in what most would consider a super low key local. Its truly an "in the Know" kinda establishment.
I must admit that I enjoy the company of my friends entirely too much. Like I've said in the past, its a shame, and probably a blessing that they live all around the world, and not in easy driving distance!
By the way its Obie's Birthday next week. And His Gal Amy thought it would be a good idea to throw him a little dinner, and cake while we were all out there. By the way a killer B-day cake! Gal can cook, and Bake like nobodies Business.
So for now IM home, Missing mr friends, and looking forward to the next trip, and when we'll all ba hanging around again. Better, and truer friends I guy could not wish for... p.s. here's what's left of DFW's snow storm (yeah its that lil patch of white stuff at our feet).
SpeakEasy Seminar
2/12/10 This is juts a heads up bout my seminar coming up while IM at SpeakEasy in TX. Any questions please feel free to email me here. IM really excited bout getting outta the cold north East and headed down ta TX. But yesterday I got the disturbing news that the DFW area was hit by like 6" of snow. I can only hope this blizzard will not affect my trip down south. But really I am sooo looking forward to spending some quality time, with great friends. Come on by, and see what IM talking bout in person. Trust me, it'll be worth it. p.s. this is a shot snapped of me working at SpeakEasy Last time I was down there. Spotlight on SpeakEasy!
2/10/10 Hey all, well Getting ready to deal with the snow, that has just started to fall. And looking forward to heading to TX in just 5 short days. A bunch of us, Jime' Litwalk, Tony Ciavarro, Litos, & myself, have been asked by Obie Hughes to his SpeakEasy tattoo in Fort Worth TX (Keller TX to be exact). We've all been a bit over the Tattoo convention thing. Traveling to some city we never get to really see, working our ass's off (hopefully), and never getting to really spend time with our friends in attendance at these shows as well. So we've decided to hold our own little get together at SpeakEasy! I'd like to think that this is just the first of many to come. So keep an eye out in the future. We'll all be tattooing, and I'll be hosting my Tattooing seminar "Dirty Little Secrets" Its $150. includes a DVD, and booklet. Its Tuesday (the 16th) evening 7pm. Contact me here, seating is limited.
Thick -vs- Thin
2/6/10 Kinda a rude way ta put it, but when ya get right down to it, thats what this particular post is all about. Today I was asked to do a mechanic gal. I did the one drawing of a gal, than it occurred to me that the gal was a bit on the thick side. Now don't get me wrong I dig em just like this, but not everyone is into the same style. So I felt it was my job to draw up something a bit more "everyones" style.
Following image is the final piece. IM happy the feller went with my original image. But I must let ye know that it did come to a coin toss, and the thin chick won. But he still decided to go with the thicker chick, which was what I really wanted to do any hows. So I guess all worked out in the end. Now I hoe it doesn't cause to many problems on the home front. I think there were words after his gal found out which one he went with. Damn cell phone cameras. Big News, Right over the Horizon
2/3/10 Yup thats right, I've just come home from out west, and of course my good friends from all over, have talked me into going away yet again! Thats right, in just a couple of short weeks, yours truly, along with Jime' Litwalk, Tony Ciavarro, and Littos, will be getting together at Obie Hughes, SpeakEasy Tattoo in Fort Worth TX. It'll be a couple of days of Tattooing, Tattoo Seminars, and good ole' fashioned hanging out with friends.
More info on this trip in the days to come. One of these days I'll settle down, Promise.... Home, again!
2/2/10 Well IM back from my trip out west. As some of ya may know I went out west to Guest spot at both Hart & Huntington, at the Hard Rock Casino, in Las Vegas, and than Out at Obie Hughes SpeakEasy tattoo, in Ontario CA. It was a blast tattooing my ass off, and even doing a couple of Seminars to kick off my stay at both locals. I must admit that my time spent on the road is amazing! I never would have guessed that I'd meet so many people all round the globe. My only regret is that, there just that, All around the globe. Its a bummer to have to travel so very far to hang out with friends. But I guess if you can make the time, and have the ability, than there's definitely worse things. * Jime', Johnny, Obie, Me, and Worm. At SpeakEasy tattoo in Ontario CA. Like I said I started with flying to Las Vegas, hanging with Jime' & his lovely Family. Than a quick Jaunt cross the desert to Obie's. One little seminar that evening, and I was tattooing all the next day. I must thank Johnny, and his Fantastic wife for putting Jime' and I up for the evening. They have a wonderful new pad, and are fantastic hosts. My seminar was very well attended, and a lot of fun. Met some real talented tattooers, and good folks. Unfortunately, my stay in CA was a short one. But as usual a great time. Can't wait to get back out there. The following morning Jime' and I were back on our way to Vegas. Again, my arrival was followed by a Seminar. This one again was well attended by artists from shops all around Las Vegas. Shortly after the seminar I was back at H&H drawing my big ass off for the following days worth of appointments. Got to work on some fun stuff, so IM including a few of the sketches. Check out the gallery section for the final versions of a couple.
Was kinda excited by the 1st sketch I did (which is the one I actually tattooed), That I felt the need to draw the second one (in pink). I let her pick which one she liked better, and I think she had nearly as much trouble as I did. Like I said, I really liked both of these, so who knows. Ya may see something else done with one, or both in the future.
Next is this lil lady on another tattooist from Mario Barths, Starlight tattoo (also in Vegas). Even though I had a few choice words to say about his employers ink products, and other things, He still was pretty cool with getting tattooed by me. He was supposed to come back the following day to get a Photo taken, but said he felt it was too bruised, and swollen to come down. "Joey Razors" strikes again I suppose. Hope too get some snap shots of this in the coming weeks. Well thats pretty much I got for now. My week out west was one of the best, and my biggest regret is that its behind me. Nut Februarys here, and as fate would have it, looks like I'll be headed down south for another visit with friends. So keep an eye peeled for more...
Tattoo Seminars, and Paintings!
1/24/10 Well IM getting ready to head off to California, by way of Vegas tomorrow. Very excited, and a bit nervous. I can't believe its actually been like months since traveling with all of my gear, But it has. I think the last time I flew with all of my equipment, was back in June of 09. Granted I've been to Germany, England (twice), and a couple of smaller shows. But lately Ive taken to sending my gear before me, via the mail. This time, I seemed to have let stuff slip, and IM carrying it along on the flight. So wish me luck. But I digress, like I said, IM off ta CA, and Las Vegas NV. I'll be guesting at Obie Hughes SpeakEasy tattoo in Ontario CA, and the Hard Rocks, Hart, & Huntington, working along side, good friend Jime' Litwalk. I'll be hosting a seminar at both places Tuesday the 26th, in CA, at 6:30 pm, and 9pm, at the Hard Rock, Thursday the 28th. Contact me at joe@joecapobianco.com for more info on this. Its Acrylic, on Mat board. Entitled "Blue Blood". part of my "Blood Puddn" project Enjoy

So keep an eye peeled...
Day of the Dead Monday
1/11/10 Well, yesterday Sunday January 10th was the second and last day of the Daniel Santos Oil painting workshop at Hope. And how did yours truly spend it, by drawing. Seems I screwed up my back the day after the 1st days workshop (a week prior), and was unable to do any painting in between. And yesterday being the last day of the workshop, I should have at least gotten Knee deep into my painting. But still not feeling too keen, I chose to kick around and watch the rest of the class. But while doing that, I also did a couple of drawings for todays appointment. Figured I'd try to soak up some of them there creative juices kicking round the shop. So hears what I came up with.
Heres the second drawing, that the client was down with. Kinda bummed me out that he wanted to do away with the spiders. I think it would have helped break up the hair. But we ended up going with a couple of traditional roses instead.
Cant really see em here. And sorry for the crappy photo. One of these days I'l learn how to take a proper picture.
Sketches, and Tattoo's
1/5/10 I've been wanting to post a couple more sketches that go along with the tattoos they eventually become. So IM posting two of my newest, as well as the first 2 completed in 2010. The first one was done on a feller who came all the way over from Australia, by way of Washington DC (seems they were visiting family for the holidays, and decided to kill 2 birds, with 1 stone). IM showing the sketches first. I was told a gypsy, or Day of the Dead gal. Two kill 2 of my own birds, I obviously drew the gypsy gal first.
Than I work up my Line drawing. Done the same way, just the face, and than the Makeup. At this point IM still unsure what he's looking to get. Next up I have something not seen done by me often enough. Its a Black and grey Skull (I so love this sorta stuff). The before is a real quick sketch, and than the tattoo. And lastly, a good ole reliable pin-up. You may remember the sketch from a few weeks ago. Really dug the piece, and the final result. See the image in my Tattoo, gallery for some more insight on this one. New York, and the New Year!!!
12/31/09 Well Against better judgment, and other peoples advice I braved the highways, interstates, and streets of CT, and NY, to do a little holiday visiting with my wifes, sister, and Her friends, from Atlanta. Like any good ex/New Yorker, I know that going to the big city the day before New Years, Hell any time in the month of December/Jauary is complete madness! But Im tried and failed miserably. Under normal circumstances I'd have no problems dealing with the traffic in Manhattan, but yesterday, I just wasn't feeling it, and had a near meltdown. I must admit defeat. But Have no fear, and watch yer ass "Big Apple", in the Imortal words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, "I'll be back". Yup I'll hit the streets of the big city again in the near future, and make the cabbies of NY, fear me!
Hah, but all was not a total wasted trip, and all was not a blow out (or me at least), We did hit the Audrey Kawasaki exibit at the Jonathan Levine Gallery www.jonathanlevinegallery.com I've always been a fan, but I will admit seeing the work in person truly is a tremendous treat.
After a very inspiring visit to the gallery (and if you haven't seen it do so), we hit a cute little place for lunch called the "kitchen club" on Mott, and Spring (I think). Small but nice (what do you expect in Manhattan).
This is probably the last pictures of me taken that day, where I actually had a smile on my face. But alas, all things are not meant to last. And If you know me, you know a smile stands a Snow Balls Chance in Hell to be long lasting
Well thats all for now, I wanna wish everyone a proper Happy, Safe, & Prosperous New Year! All the best to you all, and see ya on the other side of '09! 2010 here I come, Pull Up yer socks, and garters, cause I got big doings for the New Year!
Haha. Finished the F#*Ker!!!
12/28/09 Well I know this was supposed to be finished yesterday (Sunday). I promise, I did try. But between tattooing, and than friends & clients stopping by to wish me a happy holidays at the studio, I didn't. But today was a new day, and I got an early start. Worked on her a couple of hours before my tattoo, and than finished her up at the end of the day. So here she is (poor photo, and all), "Yippy, Kai, Yay" (Mother F#*KER, thanks Mr. Bruce Willis. ).
IM not certain bout the number of hours in this piece. It being spread out over the past week, or so kinda screwed up my time line.
All in all she measure about 20"x30". she's acrylic, brush, and airbrush, & Colored Pencil. Had a lot of fun trying to incorporate both Danny Knights logo, along with Stead Fast's logo, for the Tried, and True Tattoo show in Orlando this May 2010.
I tried to come up with a blow up, floaty, for the Knight chess piece. Not sure if it comes across, but I kinda dig the effects. Than there's the Gal. Tried to keep my "Capo Gal" feel, even though this ones a bit more svelte than other gals I've painted in the past. I mean Hell it is a show in Orlando. I did include the Blue, and Magenta hair however. And the big hoop earrings. IM not sure how Chris will feel about SteadFast being represented by a Cow Gal. I was initially going to do a Pirate gal, but the Cow gal worked better riding the Horsie float. Well I guess I'll just have ta wait and hear back. Hope ya like. If I don't post before New Years, All of ya's have a Happy Safe on...
1 More Session (hopefully)
12/26/09 Well, IM plugging away here folks. I guess I really shouldn't complain. Got up early today, answered a couple of emails, and made my way to work, and my painting studio. Like I've posted in past Blogs IM hoping to do a bit of painting before I get my day started tattooing. And when I say a bit, I aint kiddin. In total I've got about 6 days (over 1 week), and abut 10-12 hours on this piece. I gotta admit, it sucks to just work an hour, or two at a clip. But I guess its better than no time at all. Besides as we all know I make my living as a tattooist, and one can only keep ones clients waiting sooooo long. Still got a ton of paintbrush work to complete, and some tightening up with the airbrush. But she's getting there. I am really hoping to get this baby done tomorrow. I guess it'll all depend on how much I get done before my client tomorrow, and how I feel afterwards. So keep an eye peeled, IM hoping the next time I posy little miss Giddy Up, it'll be because she's done... Chippin, away, on Yippy
12/24/09 Well, the holiday is officially here, IM off to NY for a day or so to do the family thing. I'll leave ya with where IM at with the current painting on my easle. Not nearly as far as I'd like to be. IM trying to get into the shop early every morning, & do a bit of painting before my first client. I've been doing just that, and than spending a bit of time after my tattooing sessions. But with the holidays, and just how busy its been at the shop, I really don't have more than a handful of hours in this little lady. I've just started tightening up the cowgirl with a paintbrush, but I've a long way to go till IM happy with that part. haven't even started on the Horsie. And IM still up in the air on how IM gonna pull off the finger waves. IM thinking paint brush waves, but I dig the way the airbrush makes the waves look super soft, and almost transparent. I'll probably just shoot from the hip when I get there. Whelp gotta run, get my day started, and head down to NY to see the Family, and do the Holiday thing. You all have a merry. Keep an eye out for more on this lil lady, coming soon... Duckies, Bunnies, and Boobs
12/23/09 Yup, thats right. I can honestly say that throughout my long career I've done my fair share of Ducky, and Bunny tattoos. And well we all know how many bobbies i've tattooed over the years. But rarely has there been the opportunity for all 3 at once! And here ya go. Feller came in, has just had a child, and he was looking for a tattoo to represent how proud he was, and yet still capture my style. Hence, the Duckies, Bunnies, and of course Boobs. We'll be working on this sleeve for several months, this is only the second sitting. So keep an eye peeled for more picts, coming soon. Have a Merry... Before there was Tattooing Pin Ups
12/20/09 Hey all. Just wanted to let you all know that "A Moment wit Joe" is still available here at Joecapobianco.com.
Check the Catalog section. In case ya didn't know, this DVD was originally intended as an interview for TattooNow,com. I thought it wold be cool to have Julio Rodriguez do the interview whilst I tattooed a Hand. As it turns out we were having a great time, and the film guys had plenty of tape, so we just kept talkin. As it turns out Julio started getting into some pretty technical stuff, and I felt that the session went well beyond your typical "Interview". So I decided to purchase the tape, and have it cut into what you see "A Moment with Joe". An in progress hand tattoo, almost start o finish (the sketch tape was sadly lost). I wont go as far to say that its nearly as in depth as "Tattooing Pinups" . But if your a savvy tattooist, there's definitely something to be gleaned from watching it. Also it was a great little tool to give away with my tattoo Seminars "Dirty Little Secrets" & "Do as I say, Not as I do". Than there's the "Tattooing Pinups" that Gnoman just released this past November. A very in depth, educational DVD by Gnoman Studios. I had a fantastic time doing this video. I will admit there were some issues with the actual placement, and client (you'll need to get a copy to learn more), but all in all, a lot of fun. IM really glad that Stephen McClure (www.darkenvy.com, Hell of a photographer by the way) asked me to do this project. Well thats all I got on this. Like I said "A Moment with Joe" can be found here in the "Catalog" section. And you can find the "Tattooing Pinups" at www.gnomanworkshop.com (soon to be available here).
Yippy's, on its Way!
12/18/09 Dec. 18th '2009 Hey all, well fun stuff the last couple of days. Finally got to get moving on taking "Yippy, Kia Aye", from sketch to board. Yesterday was my day off, so I spent the day transferring the sketch to board, and rendering her. Working a bit different on this one. Firstly, IM using a different illustration board. Usually IM all about the cold press double think Bainbridge board. This time I used a single ply board kicking round the shop that eric used to use, to do water color paintings. It's a bit smoother, and not very "toothy", but the pencil took to it nicely. I also didn't prep the board the way I normally do. I usually hit the board with a few coats of Thined down Gesso. This time I thought I'd try using my base coats of acrylic as my base for the airbrush. So what your seeing here is Tube, and a mixture of Golden, Holbien, and Badger airbrush acrylics, over my pencil drawing. I've used a dark Umber VeryThin pencil (from PrismaColor). I normally draw with a colorerase pencil. But over the years I've discovered that there not very light fast over the years, so hence the change to VeryThin, for finished work. IM swamped at the shop the next few days with some pretty big work, so I doubt I'll be able to do much painting afterwards. IM usually pretty wiped after a full day of tattooing, and just look forward to getting home. But IM pretty excited about getting moving on this piece, so who knows. Keep an eye out for more updates, coming atcha soon A little, Sneak Peek Action
12/16/09 Hey all in case ya didn't know Nichole East, also Know as the "Toy Baroness", asked your truly to design a toy for KidRobot. And I must say I was quite shocked, and, excited as F*%K! To say the least Well here's the sneak peek, as it appears on KR's Blog http://kronikle.kidrobot.com/joe-capobianco-sneak-peak-the-bride/
Coming in mid-2010, Connecticut tattoo master, Joe Capobianco gives us The Bride of Frankenstein. See the sneak peak preview of this luscious piece of Kidrobot, plus The Baroness caught up with Joe to ask him about how he got started and what makes up his collection. How long have you been tattooing? What was your first introduction to art? What mediums did you work with before you started picking up a tattoo machine? My primary art tool before tattooing was, and still is the airbrush. What made you switch to tattooing as your art of choice? What do you collect? Keep an eye peeled for more, I know I can't wait. p.s. this lil' lady will see her release at his years Hell City, Columbus OH. in May. See ya there. Yippy Kia Yay, Wish me luck!
12/14/09 Whelp, just finished this sketch that I laid out this morning for a new Painting im Working on for this years "Tried, and True" tattoo convention in Orlando FL. Seems that Chirs, and Danny (the shows promoters, and all around nice guys), and asked yours truly to be one of this years "Featured artists". I will join the likes of Jime' Litwalk, Josh Ford, Martin, LaCasse, and Bert Krak (last Years featured Artists). This year I will share the limelight with Nikko, Roman, and the one and only Mike Wilson (who should probably have the stage to himself, a stand up guy, and a Hell of a tattooer). So, all the artists are gonna have a banner, and perhaps a shirt. So throwing caution to the wind, IM posting the sketch to mine, here now. ![]() I will admit that when I jump the gun, and show off the sketch too early, things happen. I mean shitty thing. People Hate it, I screw up the painting, or just plain old hate the fucker before iM even finished with the piece. But IM hoping that doing this, here, and now, forces my hand, and get my ass motivated to knock this bitch outta the park. Besides I kinda really dig the sketch.
![]() So keep your eyes peeled for some in progress picts coming soon (fingers crossed).
JOE
Sketches, and More sketches...
12/12/09 Well, I've plenty to share for the future, but I thought I'd drop a blog about the sketching, & planning thats involved with some of my tattoo work. A lot of the clients that I've tattooed in the past can tell you that IM notorious for drawing more than 1, or 2 sketches for there tattoo appointments. This can be a bit of a hassle when the client comes in, because too many options can be just as difficult as not enough.
What ya see are 2 sketches drawn for a client just recently tattooed. If ya browse my tattoo photos, you'll see the sketches that made it to skin. I do this for a few reasons. mainly to draw. I mean it don't hurt, and practice, practice, practice. Almost makes perfect (at least for me). A lot of times I'll have several ideas kicking in my head, or it just may take a couple of shots to get them creative juices flowing. And in the case like the shopping gal, some pieces just fit the area better than others.
Than there's a case like this afternoon. Where a client drives like 7 hours to get a 1/2 sleeve, and I spend a bit of time working up a single piece for it. Thinking I've nailed it he shows up, I show it to him, and get the stencil on him. Do a bit of drawing on the skin, for final layout, and he informs me, he's unsure. And decides to scratch the idea. I personally can't help but think that Had I had more than 1 sketch, than perhaps I wouldn't have spent another hour doing another drawing for his half, sleeve, and could have just stated tattooing on time. But what'cha gonna do??? 2 Little Skulls.
12/9/09 December 9th '09 Hey all well IM back with here for my second posting (in as many days), on my new blog Location. IM posting this new piece that was started a week ago, but due to everything going on at the shop (the art opening, guest artists, friends visiting), IM just able to finish her.
She's on a new paper (for me). Actually, its quite old. I purchased a pad of bristol painting paper. Basically it feels like the weight of Bristol, but has a Gessoed pattern pressed into the surface.
I can't say I totally dig the effect, or what it was like to paint on. Had a bit of a difficult time, with scratching the surface if I was not careful when applying paint with a brush. Also paint pooling when sprayed to heavily with the airbrush.
But all in all it was a fun little experience to work on a totally new surface. I mean I really dig the texture of canvas, but it can be a bitch for me to paint on.
I never took an accurate measurement, But I think it was about 17"x7" (round about). IM hoping to send her to Dan Henk, for a Monica Henk Tribute show going on this May, in NY. More on this as I find out bout it.
Hope ya like her, and keep an eye peeled for more Blogs, and cool art, coming as often as I can create it.
Happy as a clam
